History: Year Three Moving Right Along
September 2006 - August 2007
- Continued data gathering: legal, census, mapping, tax base, HOA dues, proforma budget development.
- Met with Sheriff Jim Cashell on law enforcement issues and strategies.
- Met with the Big Sky Resort Area District Board to prepare plan for seeking Attorney General Opinion on how incorporation will change the resort tax structure.
- Identified the minimum, legally required, functions of a local government, associated costs, and budget.
- Developed the associated tax implications for the various boundary scenarios.
- Met one on one with a few local opinion leaders for communication plan input.
- Held two widely-communicated public meetings discuss findings and recommendations to date. Received significant majority support to proceed.
- Bid farewell to Kate Ketschek in May.
- Published "Why Big Sky Needs to Incorporate" editorial.
- Updated BSOA members on progress at their annual meeting and received broad support to proceed.
- Solicited boundary input from all area HOAs and offered to attend their annual meetings
Year Three Conclusions:
There is broad support in the community for continuing with this project towards an eventual vote.
Next step: Identify proposed boundaries.
